Definitions
Generation
This is a modified definition based on the Pew Research Center's definitions of the generations. The modification is on Millennials to span 1981-1999 instead of 1981-1996 which affects Generation Z to begin 1999 instead of 1996.
Unit
The Unit Group and Unit Label is dependent on the Employee Group. This is important for faculty in administrative roles; their unit will be the unit of their ALVSCE professorship.
Employee Group: Faculty
Faculty is comprised of administrators and leaders in addition to core faculty. The Faculty Type and Faculty Rank is derived from the faculty member's primary professorship title where applicable/available or by their primary faculty title.
Employee Group: Student Employees
This is a grouping comprised of Student Workers and Graduate Assistants/Associates.
Employee Group: University Staff
This is a grouping following suit with UCAP that encompasses Classified Staff, Appointed (Academic and Service) Professionals (including Advisors), and Post Docs (per UHAP).
Employee Group: Unit Leads
Unit Lead is a flag that is derived from an employee having one of the following terms in any of their titles: director, head, dean, chair, or vice president.
Tenure Group
The tenure status is derived from the title of professorship and are standard except for Non-Tenure Track which includes not just Non-Tenure Track (NTT) proper but also any other faculty member contract types (including Year-to-Year and Multi-Year). Non-Tenure Track does not include Career Track faculty, because Career Track is its own category. Non-Tenure Track includes faculty members with titles like Research Professor, Lecturer, Instructor, and others without tenure/continuing eligibility.
Gender
Values are limited by the system in being able to reflect gender beyond the available binary options.
Unit Lead
The field/filter named 'Unit Lead' is derived by logic, marking anyone with the following words in any of their titles as a 'unit lead': 'president', 'dean', 'head', 'director', 'chair'.
