Dr. Steven R. Archer recently was awarded the W. R. Chapline Research Award at the Society for Range Management’s 72nd Annual Meeting, Technical Training and Trade Show in Minneapolis, Minnesota, February 10-14. He was recognized for his research accomplishments in rangeland science and associated disciplines including the biology and ecology of plants, wildlife, and domestic livestock, and characteristics of the ecosystems they inhabit.

Archer, a professor in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, is a lifelong member of the Society for Range Management. He has published more than 120 peer reviewed publications in more 50 different journals, and is a frequent contributor to the Society’s journal Rangeland Ecology and Management. He has served as a lead author on national assessment reports, provided leadership on establishing scientific observational networks, and contributed to national and international steering committees and evaluation panels.

Archer previously was awarded a Fellow to the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2009 and a Fellow in the Ecological Society of America in 2016. He also was awarded with the Society’s Outstanding Achievement and the Outstanding Publication Awards in 1995.
