Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs - also called Drones) play an important and growing role in agriculture and natural resource teaching, resource, and extension work. The University of Arizona is developing processes and policies to ensure that this new technology is used safely and in a way that protects the interests of the University. Prior to the purchase of any UAS by an CALES unit or employee, read and follow the attached memorandum.
A UAS inventory is maintained by the Associate Vice President for Research; all UASs owned by CALES' units must be added to this inventory list. CALES will not pay fines or penalties, or financially support employees involved in legal matters caused by non-compliant UAS use. Additional information on University standards for UAS use should be directed to U of A Risk Management.
