A Streamlined Structure for CALES, Cooperative Extension, and the Experiment Station
Organizational Update
The following message was sent from Michael E. Staten, interim dean of the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences (CALES)/Cooperative Extension, Edward C. Martin, associate vice president and director of Cooperative Extension (CES), and Brett Blum, interim director of the Arizona Experiment Station (AES) to all employees in CALES, CES and AES on Dec. 9.
We are pleased to announce that, effective Jan. 1, the units currently organized under the division of Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension will be fully reintegrated into the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences (CALES), under the leadership of the college dean.
Given that the College of Veterinary Medicine operates outside of CALES, we are eliminating the division structure to create greater cohesion and simplify how we communicate who we are and what we do.
This streamlined structure is aligned with how we work in practice. Cooperative Extension and Arizona Experiment Station leadership already reports to the college dean and plays an integral role in strategic planning, faculty hiring, and delivering our shared land-grant mission.
This decision was made collaboratively by our leadership team and was approved by Provost Prelock and President Garimella, who agree it will position our programs for long-term success.
CALES, Cooperative Extension, and Arizona Experiment Station will continue to work closely together toward shared goals as interdependent and integrated partners committed to serving Arizona’s communities and industries.
We anticipate this will be a smooth transition that will not impact how we operate and conduct our work. We will share additional information in the coming weeks.
As always, thank you for your continued dedication and contributions.
